Description
The Crowned Heads Las Calaveras 2025 LC52 carries genuine emotional weight behind the blend — an annual release that translates to “The Skulls” and pays tribute to those the company lost over the past year, celebrating their lives rather than mourning them.
Construction & Origin
Las Calaveras debuted in 2014 and has released every year since, now in its eleventh consecutive edition. This 5 x 52 robusto is finished in a rare, mid-priming Mexican San Andrés wrapper — only the second time in the series’ history this wrapper has appeared, and the first since 2018 — over Nicaraguan binder and filler, hand-rolled at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua. Just 1,500 boxes of 24 were produced for this size. Co-founder Jon Huber explained the deliberate choice in a press release, noting the mid-priming leaf gives a lighter Colorado color rather than the darker maduro shades typically associated with San Andrés wrapper, specifically so the coffee, espresso, and toffee notes could come through without getting lost under heavier pepper and earth flavors.
Flavor Profile
Medium to full-bodied, this cigar opens with a potent black pepper punch that quickly fades into dark chocolate, tart raisin, earthy musk, cinnamon, and cedar, with coffee, espresso, and toffee notes emerging thanks to the lighter wrapper choice. Cigar Coop’s own review noted excellent construction with minimal touch-ups needed, and real customer reviews consistently praise the sweet, bready notes and rich, thick smoke output.
Why It’s Sought After
2025 marks a genuinely rare moment in Las Calaveras history — the wrapper choice alone makes this a standout year for a series that’s become one of the most successful annual limited editions in the entire cigar industry. With production capped at 1,500 boxes and no plans for a repeat, this remains a real collector’s item the moment each new edition ships.
