Description
The StillWell Star English No. 27 is a 6 x 52 toro that tucks an English-style pipe mixture inside a premium cigar: an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and Mexican San Andrés Negro binder over Nicaraguan leaf mixed with Burley, Turkish and pressed Cypriot Latakia from Cornell & Diehl. Halfwheel and Cigar Coop name Joya de Nicaragua in Estelà as the factory; halfwheel dates the release to November 5, 2021.
What It Tastes Like
Cigar Coop’s William Cooper scored it 88 points on October 12, 2022, rating strength and body medium. He found cedar, earth and half-ripe blackberry, joined by chocolate and pepper, with a smoky Latakia edge leading the first third. Halfwheel’s December 2021 review (89 points) heard the pipe leaf mainly in the aroma, as tea and sappy wood over pepper, earth and berry; its November 2023 redux (88 points) called the strength mild and noted chalky earth, cream and apple, plus a cherry- or blackberry-pie note in the first half.
Who It’s For
- Pipe smokers who love English mixtures and want Latakia smoke in a hand-rolled toro.
- Dunbarton collectors comparing it with the 2026 English Dulce Maduro.
- Curious cigar smokers wanting pipe leaf without a heavy-strength cigar.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Cigar Coop rated both burn and draw “Very Good” (October 2022)
- Halfwheel praised the roll and caps in 2021 and called construction excellent in its 2023 redux
Cons
- Halfwheel found the pipe notes faint and uneven from sample to sample
- Cigar Coop’s reviewer admired its originality but did not fully warm to the flavors
About the StillWell Star Line
Dunbarton credits Steve Saka, a pipe smoker for more than 30 years, with the cigar blends and Cornell & Diehl head blender Jeremy Reeves with the small-batch pipe recipes. Halfwheel reports that English No. 27 launched as one of four 6 x 52 blends sharing one wrapper and binder.
